For a flavour of this year’s home colour trends, look no further than your favourite coffee shop!
Yes, as 2025 gets underway, interior designers are turning towards the mouth-watering options of chocolate and coffee to create their looks of the moment.
The Pantone Color Institute has selected its PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as its shade of the year, suggesting it embodies hints of indulgence as well as an earthiness.
The institute has created five unique palettes with the colour, each conveying its own distinctive feeling and mood.
The idea, it claims, is that the shade brings with it the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, said: “Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence –
sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic.
“It extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embracing aspiration and luxe.
“Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, it presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour.”
She adds: “There is a growing movement to align ourselves more closely with the natural world.
“Characterised by its organic nature, the shade honours and embraces the sustenance of our physical environment.
“Imbued with authenticity, it finds harmony and balance between the demands of modernity and the timeless beauty of artful creation.”
The desire to connect with nature is still seeing strong moves towards the likes of Japandi and Feng Shui.
Sleek minimal interiors have given way to other warmer tones, including cream, beige and camel giving the home a cosy and inviting feel.
The natural flow of a room, including where furniture and home accessories are placed, remains key to those designing spaces.
According to Furniture and Choice, soft shapes and round edges, curves and arches are also going to feature strongly this year.
“Whether through structural changes or furniture, curves help break up the sharp corners and straight lines to create an inviting and relaxing space.
“Transforming an alcove into an intimate corner by adding soft curves is a DIY project worth putting time and effort into or investing in a curved sofa to contrast the clean lines in the living room is also a good idea,” it suggests.
Finally, further integration of home technology will, of course, continue to be at the heart of home design and creation throughout 2025.
“Integrating technology into the home used to mean it was hidden or concealed from view but now it’s starting to become part of the décor,” the company says.
“This ‘smart home’ concept is about saving space and making your home feel seamless with built-in shelving and wall slats.
“A sleek media wall in your living room with this integrated design is a good example of this and complete with the cinema glow when you install LED lights into the shelving.
“Alternatively, if you’re worried about relying too much on technology at home you can also create ‘switch-off’ zones which is also very trendy right now.
“Turning a quiet corner into a reading nook or meditation area is one way to unplug from our devices.
“Set the mood with the right lighting and choose a comfortable armchair or meditation mat to get started.”
