Bright, bold and ready to face the year ahead

Pantone has announced its new colour of the year and anyone thinking about redecorating or refurbishing a room in 2023 may be interested in considering it.

Viva Magenta (18-1750) is a gorgeous red that could be ideal in a cushion, throw or even small accents, such as mugs, vases and coasters.

For those seeking to go even further, it could make a striking feature wall or be a bold statement if you brought it in when you invest in that new chair or sofa.

Described by Pantone as: “A shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength,” Viva Magenta is said to “brave and fearless.”

The idea is that evokes a desire to be self-empowering and promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, according to Pantone.

“Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit. It is a colour that is audacious, full of wit and inclusive of all,”  it says.

And Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, Pantone Color Institute, adds: “In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real.

“PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.

“Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter.

“Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanises our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
